Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology envisions the integration of Space Technology and Space Science educational programs with basic and applied research for meeting the national R&D requirements of Science and Technology in general and of the Indian Space Programme in particular. The institute provides a vibrant research atmosphere and offers Doctoral and Postdoctoral programmes.

Applications are invited every year from highly motivated students for admission to the Postgraduate Programme, in the areas of Aerospace Engineering, Avionics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Earth and Space Sciences.

Fellowship
  • Fellowship will be as per UGC/MHRD norms
  • The M. Tech/Master of Science students will be required to assist the Departments in academic activities as and when required.
Selection Procedure
  • Every year applications will be received during April - May, only through on-line submission .
  • Number of seats in each programme is 6 (SIX).
  • Reservation of seats for SC/ST/OBC/PD is applicable as per Govt. of India Orders.
  • The applicants who are shortlisted for M. Tech/Master of Science programmes are required to appear for a written test/Interview at IIST as the case may be.
  • No TA/DA is admissible for appearing in written test/interview. The shortlisted students are advised to make their own arrangements for travelling and lodging for attending written test/interview in Thiruvananthapuram.
  • List of shortlisted students will be displayed in IIST website. Shortlisted students are required to download call letter from the website www.iist.ac.in
  • Candidates who are employed in Government/Semi Government/PSUs/Autonomous Bodies need to produce a “No Objection Certificate(NOC)” at the time of Interview.
  • Students who are selected for the admission have to join the course on the notified date.
  • Classes for the selected MTech/Master of Science students will tentatively commence on 23rd July 2018.
How to Apply
  • Applications should be submitted online only. Applications received online only will be considered for further processing.
  • While applying online, SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/Persons with Disabilities -PWD candidates should upload the relevant certificate before the prescribed date. Applications will be processed only after the receipt of the above proof online. In other words, non-submission of proof online will lead to rejection of application.
  • While applying online, applicants will not be allowed to make any changes in the profile registration once submitted. Hence utmost care should be taken by the student while filling the profile.
  • The applicants who wish to apply for more than one programme shall exercise their order of preference/option of Post Graduate Programmes, at the time of applying itself. The option once exercised shall be final.
  • If the student is eligible and wishes to apply for more than one Department, he/she has to pay application fee for each Department separately.
  • Application fee is Rs.600 per Department (Rs 300 for SC, ST, PD and women candidates).

* If vacancy exists the Wait List will be updated on every Friday at 8 pm. and the candidate has to remit the stipulated fee on or before by subsequent Wednesday.(For eg: 18/05/2018 & 23/05/2018, 25/05/2018 & 30/05/2018)

If Candidate's highest preference is alloted and if he/she fails to remit the fees then his/her candidature will be cancelled.

If Candidate is alloted one of his/her lower preferences and he/she does not remit the fees, then also the candidate is eligible for being considered for his/her higher preference.

Age Limit

32 years as on 30.04.2018. Age relaxation is applicable to SC / ST / Persons with disability (PD) category as per Government of India Orders. No age relaxation for OBC and women candidates.

Minimum Qualifications
  • BE/B.Tech/Master of Science or equivalent degree mentioned with a minimum of 60% marks or CGPA 6.5 out of 10 for General & OBC category and minimum of 55% marks or CGPA 6.0 out of 10 for SC/ST & PD categories. A valid score in GATE/JEST/UGC NET in relevant area as the case may be, as specified below is essential.

  12. For the programme offered by Departments of Aerospace Engineering and Avionics, candidates will be shortlisted based on the valid GATE score. The shortlisted Rank list will be published and the candidate has to remit the semester fee through online (SBI Collect) within the stipulated date.
  13. In case the Candidate in the shortlisted Rank list fails to remit the fee within the stipulated date, then the seat will be alloted to the next candidate in the shortlisted Rank list.
  14. If the candiadte wishes to withdraw before the commencement of class, he/she may send a request to academics@iist.ac.in, the fee will be refunded as per UGC Guidlines.
  15. The applicants who are shortlisted for M.Tech/Master of Science programmes  for Departments of Chemistry, Earth and Space Sciences, Mathematics & physics are required to appear for a written test/Interview as the case may be.
  16. No TA/DA is admissible for written test/interview . The shortlisted students are advised to make their own arrangements for travelling and lodging for attending written test/interview in Thiruvananthapuram.
  17. List of shortlisted students for written test/interview for Departments of Chemistry, Earth and Space Sciences, Mathematics & physics will be displayed in IIST website. Shortlisted students may download call letter from the website.
  18. Students who are completing their qualifing degree programme in 2017-18 will have to provide the consolidated marklist/marklists of all semesters along with provisional/Degree Certificate shall be produced on or before October 31, 2018. Till the date of submission of Degree Certificate, the admission will be treated as provisional and such students who have not submitted the Degree Certificate will not be eligible for scholarship. Also those students who have not submitted the Degree certificate before 1700hrs on October 31, 2018 shall be disqualified and such students shall not be eligible to continue their studies at IIST further. On submission of the certificate on or before October 31, 2018, the scholarship will be paid with effect from the date of commencement of classes or from the date of admission to the programme, whichever is later.
  19. Students who have completed their qualifying degree prior to 2017-18 will have to produce all the certificates and TC in original at the time of admission.
  20. M Tech students with valid GATE score will be receiving scholarship through AICTE.
  21. Students selected for Master of Science programme, the scholarship will be paid by IIST. 
  22. Candidates who are employed in Government/Semi Government/PSUs/Autonomous Bodies need to produce a “No Objection Certificate(NOC)” at the time of Interview
