Undergraduate & Dual Degree
Undergraduate programs are offered in Aerospace Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Computer Science and Engineering(Data Science), leading to B.Tech degrees. Additionally, dual degree programs are available, awarding a B.Tech in Engineering Physics along with an MS/M.Tech in specialized fields such as Astronomy and Astrophysics, Earth System Science, Solid State Physics, and Optical Engineering, upon completion of ten semesters.
The curriculum is thoughtfully designed to address the evolving needs of space science and technology. Aligned with the National Education Policy 2020, starting from the 2024 intake, these programs offer a rigorous academic foundation and open up diverse opportunities for graduates in both higher education and employment sectors.
- 4-Year B.Tech. ( Aerospace Engineering )
- 4-Year B.Tech. (Electronics and Communication Engineering (Avionics))
- 4 Year B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering (Data Science)
- 5-Year Dual Degree (B.Tech. + Master of Science/Master of Technology)
The Dual Degree Programme is a 5-year (10 Semesters) Programme. On successful
completion, the students are awarded a B. Tech. degree in Engineering Physics and a Master of Science/ M. Tech. degree in one of the following four postgraduate streams:
- Master of Science in Astronomy and Astrophysics
- Master of Science in Solid State Physics
- M.Tech. in Earth System Science
- M.Tech. in Optical Engineering
Students will be allotted their postgraduate streams at the end of the sixth semester based on their preference and academic performance up to sixth semester. The seat for each of the streams will be notified to the students during the sixth semester.
There is no exit option with a B. Tech degree in Engineering Physics. However, based on academic performance, Vice Chancellor, IIST, has the discretion not to promote students with unsatisfactory performance to the Masters’ level. These students may be allowed to exit with a B. Tech. degree in Engineering Physics with specified norms worked out by the Department and approved by the Academic Council and Board of Management of IIST.
IIST Admission Process
Admission to Undergraduate and Dual Degree programs at Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) is purely based on merit, determined by the marks secured in the Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced). Candidates must also meet the minimum prescribed marks set by the Institute at the time of admission in class XII and JEE(Advanced).
Online counselling is conducted for candidates who have applied to Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology for admission.
The following reservation categories are followed
As per the reservation policy of Government of India applicable to Central Educational Institutions (CEI), candidates belonging to the following categories are admitted to reserved seats based on relaxed criteria. The categories and the corresponding percentage of reservation are
- Scheduled Castes (SC): 15%
- Scheduled Tribes (ST): 7.5%
- Other Backward Classes (OBC) belonging to Non-Creamy Layer (NCL): 27%
- Persons with Disabilities (PWD) : 5% (Horizontal Reservation)
- Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and Women Supernumerary as mentioned above.
The above listed categories are the ONLY reservation categories for admission to the undergraduate programmes at IIST.
Seat Matrix for Undergraduate Programmes
