Post-Doctoral Programme
The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) offers Research Associate (RA)/ Post-Doctoral Fellowship (PDF) positions across a broad range of frontline research areas in Science, Engineering, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Management.
Positions are open for PhD degree holders with a strong academic and research profile. Candidates should hold a PhD degree from institutions/universities other than IIST. The research area must align with ongoing research at IIST.
1. Nationality: Indian citizens including people with NRI/PIO status, as well as foreign nationals.
2. Age limit: Less than 35 years. Age relaxation shall be as per Government of India norms, including for economically weaker section ( subject to change from time to time)
3. Qualification:
- PhD degree from a duly recognized Indian or foreign university/institute
- For PDF-I/RA-I: At least two lead-author publications in Q1/Q2 journals with a high impact factor. For PDF-II/RA-II and PDF-III/RA-III: At least three research publications in Q1/Q2 journals with a high impact factor, with two as the lead author.
4. Duration: Initially for one year, with a possible extension for one more year, subject to performance review at the end of first year.
5. Research/contingency Grants: Maximum Rs. 25000/- given as a grant for International travel after successful completion of first year.
6. Emoluments:
- IIST offers fellowships under three categories:
- PDF-I/RA-I: ₹58,000/- per month (for candidates with a fresh PhD).
- PDF-II/RA-II: ₹61,000/- per month (for candidates with 1–2 years of postdoctoral experience).
- PDF-III/RA-III: ₹67,000/- per month (for candidates with more than 2 years of postdoctoral experience).
- Accommodation will be provided on the IIST campus. If unavailable, HRA will be provided as per institute norms.
- Medical facilities will be provided as per institute regulations

IIST welcomes National PDFs, INSPIRE Fellows, and other government-funded PDFs/RAs who wish to be hosted at IIST.
- Selected candidates will be provided the necessary infrastructure by the institute.
- Medical and other benefits will be provided as per institute norms.
- Candidates' research grants will be used for domestic travel, laptops, books, minor equipment (for experimental work), and other research-related expenses.
- Accommodation will be provided on the IIST campus, subject to availability.
