Communication Networks Lab

The lab focuses on mathematical performance analysis, optimization, and design of sequential communication and computing algorithms. Our core competencies are:

  • Probabilistic Modelling of Systems, Signals, and Data

  • Sequential Decision Making

  • Stochastic control and Learning

  • Optimization, Data analysis

  • Mathematical software development

A major thrust is on applications in Communication Networks, even though we have also worked on data analysis, radar systems, robotics. Current and past research projects include: Sequential decision making and control, Scheduling and control algorithms for networks, TSCH network design, Age optimal scheduling (IISc-Bangalore), Networks with reconfiguration delay (IIITDMK), Reinforcement learning for network control, Applications in cellular 5G networks (IISc-ECE), Minimum latency TSCH networks (IISc-NetArch), Scheduling for 802.11ax HE WLAN, Optimization, Optimisation of resistance measurement circuits (with Dr. Anoop C. S.), Data analysis: Ion current model fitting with data collected from ARIS (with Dr. Umesh, Dr. Dhekane, Dr. Anoop, Dr. Sudarshan), Performance analysis of communication networks, Delay tolerant networks (IISc-DESE, Manoj), IoT networks (IISc-NetArch), Short packet communications (IISc-ECE), Fast synchronization, Delay, reliability, power tradeoffs, MAC protocol implementation, simulation, and performance measurement, Estimation, detection, data analysis. Fast estimation of causality, Active sequential detection, Estimation over networks - age of information.

Major funded projects:

1. SERB Early Career Research Grant: Wireless ReLoD - “Wireless Reliable, Low Latency Networks for IIoT and Fieldbus replacement"

2. IIST Fasttrack: Development of rapid network stack development tools for internet of things operating systems

Manpower training: 6 PhD students (full and parttime), > 50 B.Tech students, > 10 M.Tech students. The lab is equipped with desktop computers for research and student user, software defined radios, wireless sensor motes for prototyping of protocols and experimental analysis.
