Guidelines and Norms for SPRA/RA/PDF

SPRA

  • Fellowship per month: ₹46,000/- After award of PhD degree – ₹58,000/-
  • Application Process: As per IIST guidelines for SPRA application. The formalities will be taken care by PDF committee and Academics section.
  • HRA: As per Institute norms
  • Travel / Daily allowance: NA
  • Leave: Leave of absence during the appointment period, calculated at a rate of 30 days per year. This includes leave of absence on medical grounds.
  • Canteen & Transport: Canteen and transport facility will be available on payment basis.
  • Tenure: Six months from the date of joining
  • Medical facilities/Insurance: NA
  • Accommodation: Hostel accommodation shall be provided, subject to availability and institutional norms.
  • Income Tax exemptions: As per Govt. of India regulation and norms of the institute

PDF/RA (I, II, III)

  • Fellowship per month: PDF/RA-I – ₹58,000/-
    PDF/RA-II – ₹61,000/-
    PDF/RA-III – ₹67,000/-
  • HRA: As per Institute norms
  • Application Process: As per the guidelines of IIST Post-Doctoral Programme. The formalities will be taken care by PDF Committee and recruitment section.
  • Travel / Daily allowance: They are allowed to travel on II AC on Train for attending conferences. They are eligible for reimbursement upto Rs. 25,000/- only. This grant can be availed after successful completion of first year. 

    The approved amount is limited to Rs. 25,000/- including international travel.
  • Leave: Leave of absence during the appointment period, calculated at a rate of 30 days per year. This includes leave of absence on medical grounds.
  • Canteen & Transport: Canteen and transport facility will be available on payment basis.
  • Tenure: The tenure of appointment initially will be for one year from the date of joining, with a possible extension for up to one more year.
  • Medical facilities/Insurance: Those who are staying in the institute hostels may avail medical facilities existing in IIST. Fellows are advised to take a medi-claim policy of Rs. 2 Lakhs from one of the Nationalized Insurance Companies in their name and intimate General Administration through proper channel within two weeks from the date of joining.
  • Review and Extension: The offer of appointment is initially for one year, with a possible extension for another year, subject to performance review at the end of the year by an expert committee constituted by Dean R&D.
  • Accommodation: Hostel accommodation shall be provided, subject to availability and institutional norms.
  • Income Tax exemptions: As per Govt. of India regulation and norms of the institute/funding agency

DST-WISE / ANRF-NPDF / Visvesvaraya PDF / similar category

  • Fellowship per month: As per the norms of funding agency
  • Application Process: Application to the funding agency will be forwarded by the proposed mentor routed through Dean (R&D) office to VC for issuing Endorsement Certificate. 

    After the approval of the proposal by the respective funding agency, the candidate has to apply through online application portal for Post-Doctoral Programme. The formalities will be taken care by PDF committee and recruitment section.
  • HRA: As per the norms of funding agency
  • Travel / Daily allowance: If the concerned funding agency has prescribed specific TA/DA norms, eligibility shall be governed by those norms. In cases where the funding agency stipulates that the host institution's TA/DA rules are applicable, eligibility shall be travel by train (II AC) and DA as applicable to IIST. 

    For international travel, where the funding agency has prescribed specific provisions or guidelines, such travel shall be governed by those provisions in line with applicable regulations of IIST. In all other cases, international travel may be undertaken only with the prior approval of the funding agency and shall be subject to the applicable rules and regulations of IIST.
  • Leave: Leave of absence during the appointment period, calculated at a rate of 30 days per year. This includes leave of absence on medical grounds. Maternity leave as per the Govt. of India instructions issued from time to time would be available to female candidates in all categories.

  • Medical facilities/Insurance: Those who are staying in the institute hostels may avail medical facilities existing in IIST. Fellows are advised to take a medi-claim policy of Rs. 2 Lakhs from one of the Nationalized Insurance Companies in their name and intimate General Administration through proper channel within two weeks from the date of joining.

Ramanujan Fellowship / DST-INSPIRE / similar category

  • Fellowship per month: As per the norms of funding agency
  • Application Process: Application will be forwarded by the proposed mentor (if applicable) routed through Dean (R&D) office to VC for issuing Endorsement Certificate. In case nomination only is required, Dean R&D's office will coordinate the formalities. 

    After the approval of the grant, the fellow will report to the institute with the approval letter from the funding agency and the formalities for joining will be taken care by recruitment section.
  • HRA: As per the norms of funding agency
  • Travel / Daily allowance: TA/DA Eligibility shall be determined based on the fellowship category, corresponding to the relevant pay level under the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC). 

    For international travel, where the funding agency has prescribed specific provisions or guidelines, such travel shall be governed by those provisions in line with applicable regulations of IIST. In all other cases, international travel may be undertaken only with the prior approval of the funding agency and shall be subject to the applicable rules and regulations of IIST.

Funded by external Projects (Post Doctoral Research Associate/PDF)

  • Fellowship per month: As per the norms of funding agency
  • HRA: As per the norms of funding agency
  • Application Process: Candidates will apply against the advertisement by IIST through PDF portal. The formalities will be taken care by PDF committee and offer letter will be issued by the recruitment section.
  • Travel / Daily allowance: If the concerned funding agency has prescribed specific TA/DA norms, eligibility shall be governed by those norms. In cases where the funding agency stipulates that the host institution's TA/DA rules are applicable, eligibility shall be travel by train (II AC) and DA as applicable to IIST, subject to availability of funds and recommendations of the Principal Investigator in Charge. 

    For international travel, where the funding agency has prescribed specific provisions or guidelines, such travel shall be governed by those provisions. In all other cases, international travel may be undertaken only with the prior approval of the funding agency and shall be subject to the applicable rules and regulations of IIST.
  • Leave: Leave of absence during the appointment period, calculated at a rate of 30 days per year. This includes leave of absence on medical grounds. Maternity leave as per the Govt. of India instructions issued from time to time would be available to female candidates in all categories.
  • Canteen & Transport: Canteen and transport facility will be available on payment basis.
  • Tenure: As per the terms and conditions of the Funding Agency

  • Review and Extension: The offer of appointment is initially for one year, with possible extension, till the completion of the project subject to performance review at the end of each year. 

    The committee for the review will be constituted by Dean R&D.
  • Accommodation: Hostel accommodation shall be provided, subject to availability and institutional norms.
  • Income Tax exemptions: As per Govt. of India regulation and norms of the institute/funding agency
