MoU title: Role of Traditional Knowledge and Local Socio-Economic Structure in Adapting to Climate Change

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) and the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), ISRO, was formally signed by Prof. Dipankar Banerjee, Vice Chancellor, IIST, and Shri G. Srinivasa Rao, Deputy Director, Earth and Climate Sciences Area (ECSA), NRSC.A key focus of the collaboration is the proposed research project with the NICES (National Information System for Climate and Environment Studies) Division of NRSC, aimed at advancing data-driven research on climate change, environmental variability, and their socio-economic impacts. Leveraging satellite-based observations, geospatial analytics, and social science perspectives, the partnership seeks to generate actionable insights on climate risks and resilience. For effective coordination and sustained interaction, Dr. Shaijumon C. S., Associate Professor, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIST, and Shri G. Srinivasa Rao, Deputy Director, ECSA, NRSC, have been identified as the focal points from the respective institutions. This collaboration reflects a shared commitment by IIST and NRSC to address pressing national and global challenges related to climate change through interdisciplinary research, technological innovation, and societal engagement.
