It is a matter of great pride for the IIST community to congratulate Dr. Mohammad Abdul Qadir, IIST alumnus of B.Tech. Physical Sciences (2008–2012), on receiving the prestigious Science for Solutions Award 2026 from the American Geophysical Union (AGU) – Advancing Earth and Space Sciences. AGU has listed Dr. Qadir as the 2026 recipient of this distinguished award. Dr. Qadir is currently an Assistant Research Professor at the University of Maryland, College Park, and a Geospatial Scientist with NASA HARVEST, where he works on global crop monitoring. His research combines remote sensing, particularly SAR data, statistical and machine-learning methods, and causal inference to understand the impacts of climate and human-induced changes on agriculture and natural resources. His work, with its strong connection to food security, agriculture, climate resilience, and evidence-based policymaking, exemplifies how Earth and space sciences can be translated into solutions to pressing societal challenges. As an IIST alumnus, Dr. Qadir's achievement is a wonderful source of inspiration and pride for our entire community. His journey from IIST to making significant contributions at the global level demonstrates the impact and reach of the IIST alumni network.
