Ms. Apoorva K, from the Department of Earth and Space Sciences, IIST, has received the Best Poster Award in the Early Career Scientist category at the APARC General Assembly 2026, held at IITM, Pune, from 12–16 October 2026. 

The award recognizes her research contribution titled “Ensemble Error Growth Dynamics in ML-Based Models for the Prediction of Tropical Cyclone Nargis (2008)”, carried out under the guidance of Dr. Govindan Kutty. 

The study investigates the ability of machine-learning-based weather prediction models to represent forecast uncertainty and error growth in tropical cyclones, through a comparative assessment with physics-based ensemble forecasting systems using Cyclone Nargis (2008) as a case study.
