ASOM 2026 was conducted at IIST, Thiruvananthapuram, bringing together scientists, researchers and faculty members from IIST, ARIES Nainital, SPL and VSSC to discuss atmospheric and space science observations, modelling and climate-related research. The workshop was inaugurated by the Heads of the participating institutions, followed by high-impact research presentations covering atmospheric sciences, aerosol–climate interactions, particle formation, trace gases and aerosol observations, and aerosol research activities at IIST. The technical sessions included presentations on mesoscale cellular convection, atmospheric modelling and data assimilation, atmospheric observations over the Himalayan region, atmosphere–ionosphere coupling, and planetary exploration. A brainstorming session was conducted to identify potential collaborative research projects, focusing on joint observational campaigns, model development and validation, and new and emerging research areas in the context of climate change. A dedicated collaboration and roadmap session was held to discuss short-term and long-term research objectives, identify potential research problems, and explore possible modes of collaboration among IIST, ARIES, SPL and VSSC. On 3 September, the participants visited the Ponnmudi Climate Observatory, SPROC facility and SPL experimental facilities, providing an opportunity for technical interaction, sharing of observational capabilities and strengthening future collaborative activities.
