PhD Open Defence of Jerin A Thachil

Mon, 29 Jun 2026

The PhD open defence of Jerin A Thachil was held on 29 June 2026 at IIST. The thesis, titled "Investigating Spatial Quantum Properties in Bright Structured Two-Mode Squeezed Light," presents a theoretical and experimental investigation of the spatial quantum properties and propagation dynamics of bright, structured two-mode squeezed light, or twin beams, generated via four-wave mixing in hot rubidium vapour. By structuring the twin beams with Laguerre–Gaussian modes that impart orbital angular momentum (OAM), the work demonstrates control over their propagation characteristics, including self-healing behaviour and the spatial distribution of quantum correlations. Furthermore, the thesis also explores the potential of these structured fields for enhancing resolution in quantum imaging. The findings advance the understanding of spatial quantum properties and highlight their potential for emerging quantum technologies, including quantum cryptography and quantum imaging.
