The Mathematics Training and Talent Search (MTTS) Programme started in 1993 as a four-week intensive summer training programme for mathematics students and has been organised at different locations across India over the last three decades. The programme, funded by the NBHM, has been organized by a group of committed Mathematicians under the dynamic leadership of Prof. S Kumaresan, the first recipient of the INSA Teachers award in Mathematics.

Over the years, MTTS has grown, with a number of different training programmes across the country throughout the year. The MTTS programmes are one of the most effective and unparalleled training programmes, making a significant impact on the Mathematical Scene in India.

This year (2026) IIST has been chosen as one of the campuses of MTTS's 34th Annual Summer School and is being held from May 21st to June 16th of 2026.
