IIST will celebrate its Foundation Day on Thursday, 18th September 2025. As part of the celebrations, a series of programmes and open day events are being organised.

Morning Session

09:30 AM – Welcome Address by Prof. Dipankar Banerjee,Vice Chancellor, IIST
09:45 AM – 10:45 AM – Foundation Day Lecture by Prof. Sanjay Behari, Director, SCTIMST, Thiruvananthapuram

Topic: From being weighted to weightlessness: Expanding the realms of Space Medicine and biomedical technology development.

 Followed by an interactive Q&A session 

10:45 AM – Vote of Thanks by Prof. Kuruvilla Joseph, Pro Vice Chancellor, IIST 

Open Day Events (From 11:00 AM onwards, at various locations) Visitors will have the opportunity to experience a wide variety of scientific, educational, and cultural activities across the campus:

• Exhibitions &Presentations by Startups – Showcasing innovative projects and solutions from emerging space-tech and engineering ventures.
• Sun Spot Observation – Safe viewing of the Sun and its sunspots through specially equipped telescopes.
• Club and Department Exhibitions – Interactive demonstrations, models, and experiments presented by students and departments at the Multi-Purpose Hall.
• Decommissioned Aircraft Engine – A chance to see and learn about a real aircraft engine up close.
• Space Museum Visit – Explore India’s inspiring journey in space through exhibits, models, and interactive displays.
• Water Rocket Launch – Fun-filled demonstrations of water rockets combining science with excitement.
• Food Fest – A variety of food stalls offering tasty and refreshing delicacies to make the day enjoyable.

The IIST Open Day is designed to inspire curiosity, celebrate innovation, and provide visitors with a closer look into the world of space science, technology, and the vibrant student community at IIST.
