Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (Deemed to be University under Section 3 of UGC Act, 1956) envisions the integration of Space Technology and Space Science educational programs with basic and applied research for meeting the national R&D requirements of science and technology in general and of the Indian Space Programme in particular. IIST functions as an autonomous body under the Department of Space, Government of India. The institute provides a vibrant research atmosphere and offers B. Tech, M. Tech, Doctoral and postdoctoral programmes in the areas Avionics, Aerospace and Physical Science. The Institute has the unique mandate of encouraging and equipping brilliant youngsters from all parts of the country to take up a career as Scientist/Engineer in Indian Space Research Organization and other industries. Please visit for more details.

The Department of Avionics was established in the year 2007 at IIST. It offers a four year B. Tech. Programme in Avionics which gives technical excellence in all areas of Avionics engineering such as Control, Digital System Design, Digital communication, VLSI Design, Navigation, Guidance, Computer Technology and Power Electronics. In addition, the department offers M.Tech in Control System, RF and Microwave Communication and Signal Processing, VLSI and Microsystems. The department also provides Ph.D program in various disciplines of Avionics like Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

Course Objectives

Control Systems is an indispensable part of any system and its design. It is common to different disciplines of engineering like Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics, Instrumentation, Chemical Engineering etc.The main objective of this course is to educate the participants and enhance their skills in Automatic Control Systems, its analysis in time and frequency and control design . All the classes would be strongly supplemented by hands-on lab sessions using MATLAB/SIMULINK. Further some applications and case studies would be touched upon. This Course would help the participants in applying their knowledge to the areas of modeling, simulation, analysis and design of controllers.

The course topics include
  • Mathematical modeling of dynamic systems
  • Time domain analysis
  • Root locus
  • Stability techniques
  • Frequency domain analysis
  • Compensator Design Techniques
  • State Space Analysis
  • State Feedback and Observer Design
  • Digital Control Systems: An Overview
  • Case Studies and other Advanced Topics

Online registrations must be done at A registration form must be completed afterwards (which would be sent by email after online registration) and sent to the corresponding address along with a Demand Draft drawn in favour of “The Registrar, IIST” payable at Thiruvananthapuram, towards the registration fees. Upon receipt of DD and filled-in registration form, the registrations would be confirmed. Participants will be provided boarding and lodging facilities on nominal charges and on request. TA/DA will not be provided for the participants. Registrations will be done on first come first serve basis. The number of participants is restricted to 45. Course is subject to cancellation if sufficient enrollment is not met and in that case the participants will be informed and registration fee will refunded.

The course topics include
  • Rs. 5000 per head for faculty members and research scholars
  • Rs. 7000 per head for Scientists/Engineers from ISRO and other industrial participants
