Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) is Asia’s first Space Institute and the first in the world to offer complete range of undergraduate, post graduate and doctoral programmes with specific focus to space science and technology. The institute provides a vibrant research atmosphere and offers B. Tech, M. Tech, Doctoral and postdoctoral programmes in the areas Avionics, Aerospace and Physical Science. The Institute has the unique mandate of encouraging and equipping brilliant youngsters from all parts of the country to take up a career as Scientist/Engineer in Indian Space Research Organization. IIST functions as an autonomous body under the Department of Space, Government of India.
The Earth and Space Sciences (ESS) department at IIST spearheads the task of bridging gaps between technology and its application to fundamental research areas in physical sciences. ESS department conducts undergraduate teaching in B. Tech Engineering Physics. In addition, this department offers post-graduate programs in Geoinformatics, Earth System Science and Astronomy & Astrophysics.
LiDAR remote sensing is a relatively new and advanced remote sensing technique that enables three dimensional mapping of the earth surface at unprecedented accuracy. With the demand for precise elevation mapping for various applications related to infrastructure mapping, utility mapping, forest management, LiDAR has proved to be one of the reliable and efficient sources of 3D data. However, the inherent qualities of the LiDAR data makes processing and extracting information complex . This workshop is aimed at encouraging and equipping research scholars and early career professionals (university/government/industry) for handling massive LiDAR datasets using LAStools and appreciating the utility of LiDAR remote sensing for various applications.
LAStools are the fastest and most memory efficient solution for batch-scripted multi-core LiDAR processing and can turn billions of LiDAR points into useful products at blazing speeds and with low memory requirements
This workshop will be fully hands-on with LAStools by Dr. Martin Isenburg, the creator of LAStools, LASzip and pulsewaves. The session focuses on processing and handling LiDAR point cloud for various applications taking examples from several real world projects. Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptops for processing the data
Broad topics that will be covered in the workshop are
Dr. Martin Isenburg, Founder Rapidlasso GMBH, Creator of LAStools, LASzip and pulsewaves
Dr. A.M.Ramiya,IIST
